The optional puzzles are a bit more involved. The clues are all there, you 'just' have to find them and interpret them correctly. The game has a reputation for obtuse puzzles, but personally I enjoyed them. I found the puzzles on the main story path not too hard, but you really have to be observant and thorough to get all the clues, and you'll probably have to apply some trial-and-error regardless since some are deliberately vague. This introduces an element of pixel hunting that I usually dislike, but it worked well for me in this game - perhaps because you usually get decent clues for the important items, the ones that are harder to find, are usually related to optional puzzles. There's a quick flash when you look at the location of an item for the first time, but this can be overlooked and also does not seem to work with 100% reliability. Many items are also hard to see in the mostly dark environments (especially when you're under time pressure). The puzzles are varied and often require good investigative skills - for example, crucial information might be hidden on the back of an item, and you won't see it until you rotate it in your inventory. But the game gives you very little guidance on where to go next (unless you play in easy mode, see below), so it can be a bit confusing to find the main plot among all the optional elements. Lots of items and puzzles are completely optional, they just reveal more ghosts and stories. You explore the school, discover oddly misplaced objects, and solve puzzles. Gameplay & MechanicsMost of the game plays like a first-person adventure. Players who can read Korean, will probably receive an extra dose of immersion from the many Korean texts that are still in the game - plaques next to doors, notes lying around, a history room with old scrolls, and more.

Completing the game once is already pretty rewarding, but to fully understand the story, you'll have to do it several times. The game has 10 different endings depending on the decisions you make.

Many of the short stories that you find, read like CreepyPasta or like mini-stories from the SCP universe - if you like those, then White Day will be right up your alley. The writing style is passable - some elements of the storytelling feel a little odd, but that might be due to cultural differences. In addition to that, there are many side stories to discover. The main plot is fairly complex already and skillfully weaves elements of Taoism and ancient Asian beliefs into a thrilling experience. Step by step you reveal the details and connections between tragic events in the school's history. Ghosts and other supernatural entities roam the school at night, long-buried mysteries from the school's troubled past resurface again, the janitor will kill you on sight, and even the other students may have questionable motives for their presence. Your original task is to give a present to one of the girls, but you quickly learn that more important things are going on, and that you and the other students are in grave danger. Three female students are also in the building, as well as a somewhat overzealous janitor who hunts and brutally murders anything that moves. Story & SettingYou play a male high school student in contemporary Korea who sneaks into the school at night.
